ASICS Gel Resolution 9 Review: Still the Best Hard Court Shoe?

The Gel Resolution line has been the durability benchmark for hard court tennis shoes for over a decade. The 9th edition brings updates — but does it still lead the pack?

ASICS Gel Resolution 9 Review: Still the Best Hard Court Shoe?

A shoe that earns its reputation

The ASICS Gel Resolution 9 carries one of the most recognized names in hard court tennis footwear. It's a shoe that coaches recommend, stringers have in their bags, and ATP players wear during practice sessions when they need something that will last. The question isn't whether it's good — it is — but whether the 9th iteration is worth upgrading to if you already own a previous version.

What changed in version 9

ASICS updated the FF Blast+ Eco midsole, which provides noticeably better energy return than the previous generation. The Gel cushioning unit in the heel is deeper, which helps with impact absorption on hard courts. The upper is slightly more breathable, and the toe cap is reinforced more aggressively than the v8 for drag protection during serve and slide.

Durability: the main event

ASICS backs this shoe with a 6-month outsole warranty — the most confidence any major brand shows in a tennis shoe. In practice, the outsole holds up extremely well even on abrasive North American hard courts. Compared to something like the Nike Air Zoom Vapor Pro 2, the Gel Resolution 9 will last significantly longer.

Stability and support

This is where the Gel Resolution 9 is clearest class. The Trusstic system and reinforced medial side provide exceptional lateral stability — critical for players who make hard cuts during rallies. Players with wider feet or who overpronate will particularly appreciate the support structure. Compare it to the ASICS Court FF 3 for a lighter, less structured alternative if stability isn't your priority.

Who it's for

The Gel Resolution 9 is ideal for hard court players who play 3+ times per week, want maximum durability, and need strong lateral support. It's slightly heavy for a dedicated speed shoe, but for the baseline grinder who wants a shoe that will last a full season, there's nothing better at this price point.
